Sunflower Mug – Bone China

John Buchan’s Uncle Wille lived in Bank House, Peebles and was the Town Clerk for 28 years. As an avid antiquarian, whose interests included genealogy and heraldry, he applied for, and received a grant of arms from the Lord Lyon in 1895. His researches led to a probable link to a younger son of Buchan of Auchmacoy in Aberdeenshire whose crest is the sunflower. The Peebles Buchans’ and their descendants adopted this most positive of flowers. John Buchan had bookplates of various sunflower designs and several editions of his books were stamped with the logo.

Recently arrived we have a complete set of the 24 volumes

Nelson’s “History of the War”

This was written in fortnightly instalments by John Buchan throughout the Great War and is still regarded as the best factual account of the War as it progressed.

If only my school history books had been written with such realism and passion!

We are grateful to a former Trustee of the John Buchan Story for offering the collection for sale.
